Detailed Designs Coloring Book Review

I admit that I was seduced by the cover of this book when ordering online. I love the vibrant, happy cover and find it very appealing. The book measures 8.5 in x 11 in (which is about standard for coloring books).

Detailed Designs has a soft cover. Inside the designs are all printed on white paper, single sided. There is a small title page with a little design on it. This is a great area to test your pens and markers on. The paper is thin, so it is a good idea, even if you are using pencils, to put a thin piece of card between the pages or a few bits of paper. This will absorb any dents from being forceful with your pencils or bleed from markers.

There are approximately 20 illustrations in the book. The illustrations range from very complex and detailed to some with larger spaces more suitable for senior colorists or those with visual impairment. The lines are black and crisp on the whole. The majority of the illustrations have a strong line weight thickness but some illustrations have finer lines. These fine lined illustrations may prove difficult to color for those with vision impairment.

The illustrations take the whole of the page and are framed by a fine black border. There is a range of images which mostly consist of flowers and swirly type designs. These types of patterns can be very relaxing as they allow a lot of opportunity for colorists of different skill levels. Those that love to blend and shade will have fun with the flowers and swirly shapes, adding new dimension and light sources to the illustrations. Those that love to color without the fuss, will enjoy the crisp lines and the opportunity to lay down blocks of color that will look good with minimal effort.
