This delightful colouring book contains all your favourite characters from Kipling's classic story - Mowgli, Baloo the Bear, Bagheera the Panther, Kaa the Snake, not forgetting the terrifying tiger, Shere Khan. The drawings in this book are based on the original illustrations by Kipling's father, J. Lockwood Kipling, who illustrated the first edition of The Jungle Book, published by Macmillan in 1894.
Additional decorations and drawings based on traditional Indian designs, and with panels of text from the original story, this book will give hours of colouring fun, and is a wonderful introduction to this well-loved tale and Kipling's unforgettable characters.
As the original publisher of The Jungle Book in 1894, Macmillan is publishing this book is part of a range of titles to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Kipling's birth in 1865.
Printed on high-quality paper that will take crayon, paint or felt pen (make sure to test first).
The Jungle Book Colouring Book
The Jungle Colouring Book is based on the original story by Rudyard Kipling and published by MacMillan.
The Jungle Colouring Book measures approximately 28.5 cm x 22.5 cm (or approximately 11.5 in x 8.5 in). It has a lovely card cover with green printed highlights and gold foil embellishments. If you were very keen, you could color in the cover of this beautiful, fun coloring book.
The Jungle Colouring Book is based on the original story by Rudyard Kipling and includes illustrations based on the main characters in that book. There are snippets from the original Rudyard Kipling story throughout to give flavour to this beautiful book. You will find the beautiful black panther, Kaa the rock python and the beautiful tiger, Shere Khan.
The lovely card cover folds out with a beautiful black and white line drawing on the inner and back cover. I love the width and strength of the line work as it makes seeing the detail far easier for me (without resorting to my specs). The title page reflects the cover of this beautiful book. I am always relieved when I see the cover picture included in a coloring book, as that is often my reason for buying online.
The paper is white and smooth. Whilst it is good quality it is thin and I would test your wet mediums on the title page first and see if there is any bleed through. I am slightly disappointed that there is not a nameplate page. Sadly, I’ve become accustomed to some nameplate pages like in Dagdrommar that are works of art on their own.
In the majority, the illustrations are double page spreads.  Some of them have lovely black backgrounds which I like.  You will find double page spreads of parrot patterns (I would have preferred to see more variety rather than the same repeat pattern) and other beautiful animals.  I would have liked to see some more individual illustrations and less of the repeat patterns, but all colorists are different with different tastes.
The line work throughout is heavy, black and a good line weight particularly for those with visual issues.   The variety of images and the quirky snippets from the Rudyard Kipling classic add variety to the book.  The book also has a good range of illustrations with some highly detailed whilst others have more white space making it suitable for different skill level of colorists.
