Sampler – Angie Grace: Adult Coloring Book Review
Angie Grace is a popular coloring book illustrator with a number of best selling books. The sampler is a sample of all her books. In the book it contains one image from each of her best selling books. The idea behind the sampler book is that this can assist you making a buying decision to purchase others from the series. I think this is a good idea as you get a little taster of an artist’s style to see if it suits you.
The book is 94 pages and 8.5 x 0.2 x 11 inches. The soft cover is glossy. Each illustration is printed on single sided paper. The paper is thin and typical of most coloring books produced by Create Space (Amazon). You will need to protect the reverse page if you are using markers by inserting a piece of card. I will probably remove the images with a knife to colour on a clipboard.
At the bottom of each illustration in large text is the name of the illustration and the original source for this image. If you find a particular illustration that you like to color in you instantly know which book might appeal to you from her large range. The large text may detract from the illustration from the colorist’s point of view and some colorists may have preferred a larger image instead.
Although, I understand the reasoning for including the sample of journal pages I can’t help but wonder what I will do with an image with a few lines on it when I color it in. To me, the inclusion of the journal page illustrations is a negative in a book that, in other respects, provides a good opportunity to review the artist’s style and see if it is a good fit for you or not.
