Color Me Jane Video Review

I hope you enjoyed the video review of Color Me Jane – A Jane Austen Colouring Book

Color Me Jane Colouring Book Review

As a fan of Jane Austen, It was only natural that I purchased all of the Jane Austen styled colouring books that have been released. Since I have been involved in colouring, I have noticed that my reading has dropped off significantly so at least with this book I can still feel that I am reading something from a literary great …albeit very small lol!

Cover & Layout

Colour Me Jane is only a small colouring book measuring in at 6.1 in x 7.9 in . The cover, with fold out flaps, features a cream background with line art. The title is framed within gold foiling and features a cameo style silhouette of Jane Austen.

The front cover notes that there is a bonus with the colouring book and this information
is printed against a gold background.

The back cover features a scaled down image from within the book together with publisher’s blurb about the book.

Orange cloth binding, seems an unusual color to choose for the binding but it does work well and stands out on the shelf.

On the inside of the cover there is a wallpaper pattern that you could color in if you wished.

Ancillary Pages

A sillouhette of Jane Austen opens the book as a text based title page. This is followed by an elaborate double page scene showing copyright information on the left and an extended title page on the right. This would be the best spot to test out your mediums and see how they react with the paper and your colouring style.

Over page a double page spread contains a nameplate page.

Layout

Illustrations are printed on both sides of the white, smooth, medium quality paper. There are 20 pages in total that feature double page scenes. The line art does run to the spine of the book. This area is tricky to color as the binding is quite stiff. Hopefully, with time it will loosen up to make colouring this area easier.

All of the images are orientated portrait style with no landscape orientation within the book.

Color Me Jane Colouring Book Images and Illustrations

The art work is all based on the literary works of Jane Austen. You can wander down memory lane reimagining the great books like Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion and Mansfield Park.

Illustrations are drawn in an old world style that have a sketchy, hand drawn feel about them. The line art is black, crisp and easy to see. However, colonists with minor visual impairment may find that due to the amount of detail in the picture and the smaller size of the book that it may be challenging to color.

Throughout the book you will find scenes from one of the well known works of Jane Austen. The scenes generally comprise the characters as you would imagine from that book together with a few pages of items that relate to the particular scene illustrated. You will also find an array of quotes from different works which have some decorative elements to color in.

My only niggle with this colouring book, is that there are several pages of wallpaper or filler pattern. Often a few pages adds a nice variety to a book but in this case I feel there are a few pages too many. Fortunately, it means that I can color in markers on the reverse side without being bothered about damaging the “filler” page.

Bonus

There are 8 pull out illustrations printed on single sided, perforated paper  that you can color and frame within the book.  The illustrations are all reproduced from the main coloring book.    It would have been nicer,  I think, if these were different drawings.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
