A beautiful, intricate colouring book, full of romantic, inspirational and dramatic quotes from the favourite plays and poems of William Shakespeare. Escape to Shakespeare’s World

Escape to Shakespeare’s World has been created by the team at Good Wives and Warriors.    This team of artists always does exceptional work and this coloring book is consistent with their style of excellence.

I was not sure how a coloring book based on the bard would present.   I am pleased to see that the team at Good Wives and Warriors have a far more vivid imagination than I do when composing such a coloring book for adults.

The book is the same measurement as their previous books,   Escape to Wonderland and Escape to Christmas Past, measuring in at 18.5 cm x 18.5 cm (approximately 7 1/4 in x 7 1/4 in).  The fold out cover is beautiful with royal purple and gold foil highlights.   On the front and back inner cover is a lovely backdrop of purple with white outlined flowers.   It really is very pretty and makes a nice touch to the overall presentation of the book.

Inside the book we start with a lovely title page and then move to an introduction to Shakespeare’s birthplace, Stratford upon Avon.   The paper is off white and very good quality having a feel of medium weight paper.  I hope that, in the future, this talented team of artists will add a nameplate page to their book.    In my opinion, a nameplate page would really compliment the high standard of works that they produce.

The illustrations have been printed on both sides of the paper.   Many of the illustrations are double page spreads running right into the spine.    On a positive, the book does lay down fairly easily with some prodding.

The line work is black and crisp and should be very easy to see for those with minor visual impairments.  Most of the line weight is fine to medium.    There are several illustrations where a black background or black elements have been printed on.   On the whole, the illustrations are detailed as we expect from these artists.     There are however, many illustrations within the book, that have larger areas of white space making those illustrations suitable for colorists who prefer less complex imagery.

Throughout the book we are taken through a journey of some of Shakespeare’s famous works, Romeo and Juliet,  As You Like It, Hamlet, Midsummer Night’s Dream and others.  You will find that there are quotes from your favorite plays interspersed throughout the book which give you a sense of context and place.

Even for those that do not love the works of  Shakespeare there is something here for everyone,  scenes of skulls and horror, ships and fantasy and lots of florals.    When you think of Shakespeare’s works from a coloring point of view there is a massive range of styles and tastes that these drawings can encompass.

Many of the illustrations have pre printed black elements

The team at Good Wives and Warriors have done an excellent job, in my opinion, in condensing the work of  such a famous literary figure into images that reflect the work, are fun to color and allow the colorist to use their imagination to be transported to another time and place.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
