Woodland Animals Coloring Book Review
German writer and illustrator, Alexandra Dannenmann has produced a number of childrens books, novels and is now working on her seventh coloring book. Her coloring books all feature cute and whimsical art work that is suitable for both beginners and experienced colorists alike.
Alexandra also releases her coloring books in German as well. Woodland Animals Coloring Book is also available with the German title of Tiere des Waldes Coloring Book.
Of course, show me a cute critter and my heart just melts. A book full of cute critters is like manna from heaven for me so of course, I had to have this one.
Cover & Layout
Woodland Animals has a soft glossy cover featuring a partially colored image from the book. On the back, there are three thumbnails of images from the book.
Ancillary Pages
The cover art in line art form has been used as the title page for the book.
This is followed by a decorated nameplate page featuring a gorgeous tree full of leaves and surrounded by cute mushrooms.
Any of the preceding pages would be a great place to tewst out your mediums and see how they perform on the paper.
Layout
Illustrations are printed on one side of the white trade stock paper. The binding is glue bound with perfect binding.
There are 25 illustrations with a white background and 10 of these illustrations are printed on a black background.
All of the images are oriented portait style and are well positioned and centered on the page.
Art Work
The illustrations are all sweet and whimsical. You will find cute little bunnies (of course) owls, mice, hedgehogs and squirrels. There are a variety of birds throughout the book and a variety of animals from tiny mice to deer.
Alexandra packs a lot of elements on to the page so colorists can expect to color mushrooms, leaves and flowers as well as the animal that is the focal point of the page.
There is enough white space left on the page to do a background if you wished.
The line art is black, crisp adn clear and very easy to see. There are large open elements on the pages for the animals usually. Smaller details have been added for leaves and the like to aid the colorist.
Colorists that have a minor visual impairment or motor impairment will find that approximately half of the images will suit their coloring needs. The other pages contain more detail and may need to be completed over time or with the aid of a magnifying lamp.

Lea, all of your amazon links go to amazon.ca (the site for Canada). With the link just saying Amazon, I expected it to go to Amazon.com (amazon US). I’m unsure if linking to Amazon.ca was your intention? Hi Tammy, that’s really odd 🙁 All the links to the individual AZ sites (just above the stars at the top of the post) go to the correct AZ link when I just checked them again. At the bottom of the post there is one universal AZ link which is provided by AZ and is meant to go to the AZ in your country. Is that the link you clicked? I just checked it and for me it directed me to AZ.com. Let me know so I can try and trouble shoot it – thank you, Lea
Ohhh…yes, I see there are different places to click now, at the top and bottom of the review. I’ve only ever clicked the links to buy under the review, situated just under the “where to buy (insert book)”, and while the link used to go to amazon.com {I live in the US, so that was the appropriate site for me}, it now only goes to amazon.ca. I guess that’s the universal link you’re speaking of?
Now that you’ve pointed out the links located near the top of the review, I will just happily use the dedicated amazon.com link.

No problem at all Tammy 🙂 Sometimes websites and Amazon do weird stuff – just by themselves 🙂 . I’m always happy to double check things and see if links are broken, redirected or just plain not working. I actually spend a lot of time making sure I get links for as many options to buy as I can, so I’d hate to see that all that time is wasted because something is not working. The link under the “where to buy is a universal link provided by AZ which is meant to direct the user to the AZ in their country so it is odd that it is directing you to Canada …but sometimes these oddball things just happen 🙂 Happy coloring x
