Beautiful Dress Coloring Book Review
If you are a lover of fashion then the Beautiful Dress Japanese coloring book may just steal your heart. It contains an amazing array of illustrations, beautifully drawn that depict a different beautiful dress in each piece.
The dresses have been selected from around the world and from different periods of time. The girls that wear the dress are depicted to suit the era as well.
Cover & Layout
A partially colored dust jacket protects the coloring book proper. There are some black and white elements that you could color as well (although it would be difficult to match up with the pre colored areas). The front depicts a variety of styles from ballerina, hanbok, kimino and a highly ruffled and frilled outfit. On the back cover, the dresses are from a more modern age of 60/70 fashion with mini skirts and boots.
The cover art is printed on the white glossy card cover of the book as well for you to color in. Unusually, the printed art is in purple ink rather than the usual black.
Beautiful Dress Coloring Book measures 28cm x 21cm approximately.
Ancillary Pages
The front cover art has been reproduced as the title page for the book which is followed by a table of contents. Most of the text is in Japanese but the main headings are also in English being: Elegant Dress, Traditional clothing, fantastic costume, Modern Fashion. The number shown on the index refers to the numbers shown on the 4 page visual thumbnail index at the end of the book. The last page is the copyright page. Any of these pages would be great to test out your mediums and see how they react with the paper.
Layout
The illustrations have been printed on both sides of the off white, medium/heavy paper that has a slight tooth to it. Only the ancillary pages are printed in normal coloring book layout.
All of the illustrations are double page scenes but unusually they are not presented in the typical landscape orientation that we are used to. Instead, you need to turn your book around so it is portrait orientated, but poster sized.
Coloring Book Images and Illustrations
The title of the book tells you that it is going to feature Beautiful Dresses but what it doesn’t say is how much detail has been included on each image. Each dress is perfectly themed with its surroundings showing appropriate hair styles, accessories and background elements to suit the dress.
Asuka Yokoo loves to illustrate soft, beautiful women and this shows in her art work.
There is a variety of dresses in the book, some highly detailed and some with less detail to suit all levels of complexity.
Line art is dull black, crisp and very easy to see. However, each image does have a lot of elements packed into the page and some pieces may be too detailed for colorists with motor impairment.
In addition to the beautiful women and their lovely dresses you will also find some cute animals, beautiful flowers and lovely interiors.
