Malarbok Bland ugglor och forgatmigej  Video Review

I hope you enjoyed the video review of Målarbok Bland ugglor och förgätmigej by Tina Wallin.     Tina was kind enough to provide an English translation of this book for me as “Among Owls and Forget Me Nots”.  When you see the content of the illustrations it seems that it is an apt title.

Malarbok Bland ugglor och forgatmigej  Review

This lovely Swedish coloring book caught my eye when I was making my recent purchases for what I now fondly call “Swedish Coloring Book Week”.     I had not heard of the coloring book artist previously so I was intrigued as to what her illustrative style may be.      The cover depicted lovely flowers and as I like flowers I was reasonably assured that I would be happy with my purchase.

Cover & Layout

The first thing that you will notice about Målarbok Bland ugglor och förgätmigej  is the size.    Usually coloring books that I receive I often feel are smaller than what I expected.    This one had the opposite effect being much larger than what I had expected!

You can see it here in comparison with one of  Johanna Basford’s coloring books that most people are familiar with the sizing of.

The book measures approximately 29cm x 29.7 and as you can see from the image above is larger than the usual coloring book.

On the cover you will find pre printing of flowers in shades of orange and blue on the outside of a circular leaf design.   There is some line art that you could color on the cover but as it is a matte laminate you would probably need alcohol markers to color it in.   On the back cover there is a lovely fresh green backdrop for an extended version of the front cover line art.    This beautiful shade of green extends to the spine of the book where it forms a background for the white text.

Ancillary Pages

On the inside cover your will find a combined nameplate and information page.   The coloring book starts with a message from the artist, in Swedish.    This page would be very suitable to test your mediums on and see how they react with the paper and your coloring style.

The illustrations have all been presented on a bright white heavy paper that is perforated!  As the drawings are all on single sided paper it makes them ideal to color in and frame or even give as gifts!      All of the illustrations have been orientated portrait style throughout the book.   There are 23 full page illustrations in the book AND at the back of the book these illustrations have been modified and used to create 16 cards that you can color, fold and send.

There is a lovely variety of images within the book from mandalas, florals, whimsical scenes and cute little owls.    You will find flowers arranged in circular designs, heart shapes, framing whimsical scenes, filling the page, with their root system and climbing around bamboo framework.    There are 3 mandalas in the book which have a geometric pattern.   There is one floral based image that has a black background.  Tina Wallin creates the most adorable whimsical images that I found in this book.    There are 2 images in this book that I would describe as whimsical and one features a bunny!  Regular readers will know of my obsession with bunnies and how much I love to see them in coloring books.

About the author

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
