Dagdrommar – Adult Coloring Book Review
Dagdrommar is illustrated by Swedish artist, Hanna Karlzon. Dagdrommar roughly translates to Daydreams (as far as I know). This is one of the most beautiful and treasured coloring books that I have in my collection currently.
The book, at the time of writing, is only available from Sweden, at the Pen Store. However, shortly the book will be available on Amazon and that will make it easier to ship this wonderful book to the legion of fans of Hanna Karlzon.
Dagdrommar is a hardback coloring book. It measures approximately 25.5 cm x 21.5 cm. The front cover is a lovely mint green with gold foil highlights. You could color the cover but, quite honestly, there is a lot inside to color. The spine has a lovely black binding with gold lettering. The black spine seems to be a feature with this artist and is evident in her other works. Inside you will find a lovely black matt paper to protect the book.
Even the title page has a gorgeous little mushroom illustration on it to start your coloring practice. The nameplate page is the most beautiful and intricate one that I have seen in all my coloring books. It is a work of art.
Inside you will find beautiful drawings from nature, fairy like creatures and bunnies in crowns, among other things. The line work is black and there are small black dots that give shading and definition to some images.
There are a few illustrations that just have the shape, and you are encouraged to draw your own. I dislike drawing my own so I’ll pass over those pages. Fortunately, for me, there are only a few images that have this encouragement.
Unfortunately, the illustrations are printed on double sided paper 🙁 When you see how beautiful these illustrations are you will be disappointed that you will not be able to use your markers on both pages. The good news is that there is an artists edition of the book, where the illustrations are printed on single sided paper. The paper quality is good, not as thin as most coloring books, but not artist’s paper either. Wet mediums would be sure to bleed on the other side.
The illustrations are so beautiful that I would copy onto cardstock so you could enjoy them with all your mediums and try different color schemes.
The paper is white, but not bright white as you will see from the video flip through review.
The illustrations tend to fill the page. There are a few double page scenes but most are single page scenes.
Fortunately, the artist, for the most part has left a margin near the spine, making it easy to color all the picture.
