There are 150 Holbein colored pencils in the range. You can purchase a full set of 150 or smaller sets of 100, 50, 36 or 12.
You can see my review of the 150 set here and download a swatch chart here for it.
You can see my review of the set of 12 Holbein pastel colored pencils here.
Open Stock Holbein Colored Pencils
Until recently it has been difficult to purchase open stock or individual Holbein colored pencils, especially outside of Japan where they are made.
However, now there are a number of stockists around the world stocking individual pencils. You can buy one to replace one that has worn down or buy one or more to just test the brand and see if it is for you before buying a larger set. If you know of any other stockists please let me know so I can update the list.
Australia – The Art Shop | Deans Art | Carlisle Arts |

United Kingdom – Jacksons Art
United States – Dick Blick

You can also buy full sets of Holbein pencils at Paint Spot and the Holbein Meltz blender fluid (which is very difficult to obtain – you can see how Holbein Meltz works in my review of the 150 pencils here)
You can also buy full sets of Holbein pencils at Delta Art here
Let me know in the comments if you have found any other reputable suppliers to add to this list.

Plaza Art in the US sells open stock Holbeins, they are $3.40, and they go on sale. Last sale they were only $2.40 a piece, best price I have ever seen.
Wow! That’s a great deal! Thanks for sharing x
They are $1.29 in Japan right now. Maybe worth the trip to save hundreds on the full 150 set.
While you are there remember to check out the biggest stationery store in the world! It looks amazing and I’m sure you would be able to pick up all sorts of pencils there too! Happy coloring x
