Spectrum Noir Colorista Coloring Book  Review

Spectrum Noir part of the Crafters Companion group, create a range of products suitable for adult colorists and crafters called Colorista.

The range includes pencils, markers  coloring pads in a range of styles for particular mediums including, pencils, markers, watercolors and a beautiful dark range that has a black embossed look to it.  As well as the pads that contain tear off sheets you can also purchase notecard sets or gift tags within the Colorista range.

For new colorists,  they also have a useful 6 part free coloring course (with bonus material).    I took this course and found it really helpful, especially the session on color theory.    It can be viewed on video and they also provide a downloadable ebook to accompany the video materials.   I find this especially useful, so I can refer to it later without having to rewatch the video.        You can sign up for the free course here and lessons will be delivered to your inbox.   The course covers coloring with pencils, markers and blending techniques.

The Colorista pads are available for pencils and a different set for markers.   I do not have the marker set, but being a rebel, I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers on the pencil pad without any issues.

Cover & Layout

The front cover features a partially colored image.  You can see at a glance from the title and the image of pencils whether the pad is for pencils or not.    The pad for markers has markers on the cover.

You can purchase the pads in either A4 size or a smaller 5 x 9 sized (useful for your handbag)

Layout

Each pad has 16 pages which can be easily removed by carefully tearing it from the glue binding.

The pages can be colored on your workspace table or on a clipboard.    As there is not a sturdy card backing paper, it would be difficult to color while commuting for instance, without a clipboard or something to rest it on.

Spectrum Noir Colorista  Coloring Book Images and Illustrations

The Colorista pads are more of a premium coloring product as each page has foil highlights in either silver or gold.

These pads are also available in a variety of different themes.  In addition,  there are a range of pads including glitter pads and tags.

Images are sized to suit framing and would make lovely gifts.

One of the things that impressed me about the foil pads was that you do not need to take care when coloring near the foil.  In fact, you can color over it and the foil resists the color.

The line art is black and crisp and very easy to see.     There is a variety of  images of the same theme within each pad.     Each pad contains pictures with different levels of complexity within it giving some variety for the colorist.

Please click on an image to view more detail.  Please note that due to the reflection from the foil it is difficult to photograph

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
