Meine Zauberhafte Natur Coloring Book Review
Cover & Layout
Zauberhafte Natur Coloring Book has been printed and titled in German. The title roughly translates to My Magical Nature (according to an online translator and my school girl German).
The cover is matte white and feature intricate line art of birds, butterflies and flowers that have gold foil highlights on them. The balance of the imagery has been pre printed in color. The title and the publisher’s name has also been printed in gold foil. The front cover design wraps to the spine, back of the book and fold out flaps. The same pattern and imagery, sans gold foil is featured on these areas.
On the inside cover a sage green is featured both front and back.
Zauberhafte Natur measures approximately 22cm x 21cm (8.4 in x 8.7 in)
Ancillary Pages
Unusually, for a coloring book the nameplate page has been printed in color. A cute note forms the lines for you to write your name, or a message if you wished.
At the end of the book a colored image decorates the copyright page.
Either front or back of the book is really the only place to test out your mediums before you dive in to coloring the book.
Layout
The illustrations have been printed on both sides of the white, medium quality paper. The paper is very sturdy and good quality. All of the images have been orientated portrait style throughout the book.
There are 18 pages of double page scenes where the line art runs to the spine of the book. The book is a little stiff at the moment making it tricky to color in these areas. With some forcefulness and further use, hopefully the binding will ease to allow for coloring in this area.
There are a couple of illustrations within the book where an outline has been provided and you have the opportunity to add your own pattern to the image.
Meine Zauberhafte Natur Coloring Book Images and Illustrations
The art work that Marjolein creates is beautiful. It is delicate but at the same time incredibly realistic.
Unusually, for a coloring book Zauberhafte Natur contains pre colored imagery on the same page as the line art that accompanies it. This may be off putting to some colorists as the printed color palette may not suit their taste for the balance of the picture.
In some ways the illustrations are quite instructional. You can see how the artist has colored some elements then you can try and mimic that art on the line work adjoining it.
If I had one niggle it would be that I wished the images had been positioned so as to avoid the spine area.
Crisp, black ink has been used to outline the images with a medium line. Although the images are easy to read, there are many that have fine details that may prove too challenging for colorists with visual or motor skill impairment.

I adore Marjolein Bastin’s work. I have one coloring book from Hallmark with her art that I adore. This book is..well, not what I would like to color; the ‘good’ parts are already done. I was about to buy it but, thanks to your review, I see that it is a bit too easy and appears to be more for beginning colorists, still lovely, but no opportunity to really color the art. 🙁
For experienced colorists this book would be way too easy because as you say all the good bits like the detailed birds have been completed. For a colorist like me, on my training wheels, I can appreciate the simple components and hope one day that I might be able to color something more advanced. I love looking at her work and the pre colored images that are so beautiful but I dislike that it limits the choice of colors for the remainder pieces to that color palette. I can’t wait to see the new coloring book that Posh are producing with her art (hope it doesn’t have pre printing). She is such a talent! Happy coloring x
