Mein Herbstspaziergang Video Review
I hope you enjoyed the video review of the lovely Mein Herbstspaziergang Coloring Book.
Mein Herbstspaziergang Review
This cute coloring book by Rita Berman roughly translates from the German to “My Autumn Walk”. Rita Berman has already published My Winter Walk coloring book and the balance of the seasons of My Spring Walk and My Summer Walk are due for publication in early 2017.
The art work of Rita Berman is what first attracted me to her work I adore the whimsical, cute and naive style of art that she illustrates.
Cover & Layout
The laminate cover features a raised black title and a cute illustration partially colored that is indicative of what you will find inside. You can see the Autumn or Fall season is represented on the cover art with the use of seasonal vegetables and orange, golds and red coloring on the leaves.
Although you could possible color the cover with alcohol markers it may be challenging and there is plenty to color in side.
You will find that My Autumn Walk is a small sized coloring book. It measures approximately 20 cm x 20 cm. If you are familiar with coloring books produced by Good Wives and Warriors it is slightly larger than those and smaller than Johanna Basford’s books.
The smaller size makes the book great for coloring on the go and the laminate cover makes the book more resistant to smudge marks.
Ancillary Pages
A plain publishers logo opens the book with author information on the reverse. A predominantly text title page follows with copyright information on the reverse. These pages would be ideal to test out your markers and mediums and see how they react with the paper and your coloring style.
A page with a note from the artist, in German, follows. At the foot of this page are some adorable mushrooms to color in.
At the rear of the book the cover art for each of the balance of the coloring books in the seasonal walk theme, has been provided for you to color in.
Layout
The illustrations are printed on white, medium quality paper on both sides of the paper. If I had one niggle with the book is that images are on both sides. Some of the images I would love to have been able to cut out and frame but in doing so I would lose the image on the reverse. I am hopeful that, at some stage, perhaps there will be an artist’s edition with single sided images in it.
All of the illustrations have been orientated portrait style throughout the book.
There are several double page scenes within the book. Due to the way the book has been bound and the positioning of the art work coloring in the areas near to the spine of the book should be easy.
Mein Herbstspaziergang Illustrations & Image Gallery
The illustrations in My Autumn Walk all focus on the Autumn season. You will find root vegetables in abundance, trees losing their leaves, and autumn produce. There is something very comforting and homely about the illustrations in this book.
Animal lovers will adore the abundance of sweet birds and cute critters like squirrels, bunnies and a hedgehog that makes an appearance.
The quirky, naive style buildings are my favorites! I just adore them, they are so cute and whimsical.
The drawings have been outlined in crisp, bolack medium lines on the whole which, due to the ample use of black in the images is visually easy to see. Solid black has also been used in many drawings to provide greater definition.
There is a range of images that vary in complexity and detail. Whilst many images have a lot of detail there are also some that are more outlines. This is useful for colorists that suffer with minor visual impairment or motor skill challenges. It is also an opportunity for colorists that like to add their own doodles to designs to add something in themselves.
There are also several pages that have patterns on them. Some of these patterns made me incredibly nostalgic 🙂 There are some that feature vertical lines with embellishments that really reminded me of “sewing” class when I was at school. We used to have to create different stitches both by hand and machine and paste our finished pieces in our school book. I was terrible at sewing class (my mother ended up doing my home work for me lol) but these little patterns really are so cute they just took me right back to being a school girl again 🙂
