Mein Frühlingsspaziergang Coloring Book Video Review

I hope you enjoyed the video review of Mein Frühlingsspaziergang by Rita Berman.

Mein Frühlingsspaziergang Coloring Book Review

Rita Berman has created a number of coloring books that have a seasonal theme of Autumn/Fall, Winter, Spring and to be released this year, Summer. Mein Frühlingsspaziergang is based on the Spring season.   The title roughly translates to My Spring Walk. The illustrations are packed with flowers, plants and scenes that remind you of Spring. Some of the scenes feature the cutest animals as well including curly sheep, decorated bunnies and pretty birds.

Cover & Layout

The coloring books that Rita Berman has created in this series all follow the same format. The cover is white laminate and shows a partially colored image. The color palette is light, fresh and vivid and reminds you of Spring. Green that has been used on the cover is also used on the spine to really give a Spring fresh feel.

On the back cover you will find partially colored art work framing some text in German, and a picture of what I presume is suggested materials to use in the book, being colored pencils.

All of the books in the series have the same measurements. They measure 20cm x 20cm  (approximately 7.8 in x 7.8in) which is great for your handbag, commuting or when you only want to tackle a smaller picture.

Ancillary Pages

A plain publishers logo page opens the book with author infomration on reverse.   This would be the best spot to test out your mediums.    A predominantly text base  page follows with copyright information on reverse.     There is a short message from the artist, in German, that has been decorated with a cute little watering can, bird and butterfly to color in.   At the end of the book you can see the cover art for the other books in this series of coloring books.

Layout

Illustrations have been printed on both sides of the paper.     The paper is white and medium quality at the lighter end of the scale.    The book is designed for coloring pencils and if you were to use wet media, like watercolors,  you would need to be light handed.  You may still risk the page buckling and damage to the other side.    As always, test on the ancillary pages first.

All of the images are orientated portrait style and there are 10 pages that comprise double page scenes.  Although the line does run to the spine of the book for the double page scenes, there is no difficulty in coloring these areas as the book lays down flat for coloring very well.     The single page scenes have all been positioned and centered in such a way to avoid the spine area for ease of coloring.

Mein Frühlingsspaziergang Images and Illustrations

All of the things that you love  about Spring are featured in this cute book.      There are lovely flowers in bloom,   Easter eggs, Spring lambs coming to season and scenes of the country side waking up after its long, cold sleep.      Rita Berman’s art always reminds me of the sweetness of folk art or naive art.

In many of her illustrations Rita decorates parts of  the elements illustrated with patterns, zentangles and the like.

Throughout the book you will find that one image on the page features elements in detail, for example umbrellas and then the facing page uses those elements in a larger scene.     I love the way that these have been designed with a detailed look of  an element and then a larger scene incorporating that element.      It means that throughout the book, unless they are double page scenes,  you get to color two different perspectives of the one focal point.

The line art is black and crisp throughout the book and very easy to see.   Most of the illustrations do use the whole of the page which is often packed with detail.    Colorists that have minor visual impairment, may need ot turn the magnifying lamp on in order to complete some pictures.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
