Garden Paths & Forest Trails Coloring Book Review

Garden Paths & Forest Trails coloring book contains a lot of features that most coloring books do not have.    Colorists that love nature based coloring books will love the presentation of this coloring book.

This book is available for customers in two sizes – Medium and Large.    The book that I am reviewing is the Medium size.

Cover & Layout

Colorists will notice that Garden Paths and Forest Trails has been spiral bound.   The binding is at the top of the book making it easy to use for both left and right handed colorists.     The cover is a protective sheet of plastic that is smooth on the top and textured on the back.  It has been imprinted with a stamped “Handmade in Colorado” logo.    Underneath the cover plastic is another plastic sheet.   It has been bound this time with the textured side on the top and a smooth side below.   The cover illustration appears below these two plastic sheets.  The design has been printed on card and is partially colored.

A lovely title page featuring a full page drawing of fish and pond elements follows.      The title page is followed by an About the Illustrator page.    The coloring book features the art work of Kathryn Marlin.

Another plastic sheet protector follows.    The plastic sheet is designed to be removed so you can place it underneath the hand drawn illustration you are coloring.   This avoids any bleed through to the other side making it easy to use your wet mediums in this book.   This information has been set out on a tips page that includes information on framing your finished pieces.

According to the product description the illustrations are printed on “90# Acid Free Smooth Index SFI certified bleed resistant paper”.    The paper quality is white and very good and I would place it as medium quality with a slight tooth to it making it ideal for coloring.

The illustrations have been printed on single sided paper.  On the rear of the illustration is the name of the drawing.

All of the images can be removed from the pad due to the spiral binding.    The paper is not perforated but there is a printed cutting guide that you can use if you wish.

The medium sized edition of  Garden Paths and Forest Trails measures 22.5 cm x 15.5 cm approximately (8 3/4 in x 6.5 roughly).    The actual image to the cutting guide measures approximately 20 cm x  15cm   (8in x 6in).    This makes the finished piece ideal for framing in a standard 8in x 6in frame.

The images are all portrait orientated.

The back of the coloring book features a sturdy, black card backing with a further two plastic protective sheets.

Illustrations

There are 36 illustrations in the pad featuring intricate images of  nature.    You will find detailed butterflies, quirky birdhouses, an abundance of toadstools and even a little fairy within.    All of the art work is hand drawn and very detailed.

Kathryn has created art work that fills the page and has been nicely centered for each drawing.      The line art is outlined in crisp, black and is visually easy to see.   The line weight varies between a fine and medium touch.

The illustrations in this book are very detailed and fine on the whole.    Colorists that suffer from visual impairment may find the details too small to color with ease and may prefer the larger edition of the book.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
