Music inspires some of the most beautiful imagery. For some, that music is metal. Regardless of your musical tastes, the illustrations in this adult coloring book are wildly detailed, elaborate and flowing (not JUST skulls and goats, but also flowers, feathers, animals, women, filigree and other design flourishes). When you're done coloring these, you'll want to frame them!

Full Metal Adult Coloring Book Review
My hubby fell in love with this book when it was delivered. He spent some time flipping through the images and studying them carefully while muttering how “amazing is this dude”. He’s right (but don’t tell him that!). This coloring book is amazingly different. It is probably one of those books that you will either love or hate. I love it.
Full Metal is the first coloring book for adults by album cover designer Chris Panatier.
Cover & Layout
Full Metal is a small coloring book, compared to others, measuring in at 21.7 cm x 21.7 cm (approximately 8.5 in x 8.5 in). The cover features a colored in image from the book which depicts the style of this artist, beautiful women and slightly macabre backgrounds.
The title page from the book is not the same as the cover art but shows a different picture. Both the cover art and the title page have been included in the book as individual illustrations.
The book is printed on white trade stock paper. A lot of thought has gone into the layout of this book. Single page illustrations have been printed on one page, double page scenes have been printed so that the reverse of the pages are blank. This avoids bleed through to images on the other side. It would have taken some time and thought to collate the book in this way.
Illustrations
There is some nudity in this book.  The nudes are artistic and very beautiful, in my opinion.   If you are offended by nudity, please don’t watch the video flip through review and rely on the images in this blog post instead.
The illustrations that Chris Panatier has drawn fill the whole of the page.    The illustrations have a range of topics but throughout there is always a sense of macabre.  The majority of illustrations have some skulls strewn across the imagery providing a sharp contrast between the softness of a beautiful woman or a scene from a nature.
Some of the illustrations may be capable of giving me nightmares but there is an overwhelming beauty about the images that I find fascinating.
These drawings all feature some shading, cross hatching, fine detail and in some parts, solid black.    Even without color these images would look stunning in black and white on display.
Lines have been outlined in crisp black with variations of line weight throughout.   The artist has also used a lot of grey for shadowing, texture and dimension in images.
Chris Panatier is an extremely talented artist. He has the knack of injecting soul into his art.    His pictures of people, particularly, convey a haunting feeling and I swear there are some images where the eyes are just burning into me (even though I have closed the book).
You can see examples of the images colored by Chris at his site here.  Chris, clearly has a great sense of humour as well as artistic talent. If you look at the back cover of his book the quotes about how good his book is, are attributed to him 🙂   He has described it as “Mind blowing. I mean wow” and I tend to agree.
