Fairy Tales Colouring Book – Adult Colouring Book Review
I have to say one thing straight away. The cover does not do this book justice. In person, it looks prettier and more detailed than it does in the photograph. The second thing I need to say is that this is one of the most beautiful books I have in my collection.
The Japanese illustrator is Tomoko Tashiro. Tomoko is proving quite elusive and I have found out very little about this artist. The book measures approximately 9.9 x 0.6 x 9.8 inches and all writing (other than the title) is in Japanese.
The book comes with a beautiful dust jacket. There are some areas on the front that you could colour in but there is more black and white line work on the back for colorists to enjoy. The dust jacket protects the red and white card cover of the book. This would be difficult to color but is very pretty to look at 🙂
The introduction of the book reviews mediums for colorists to use. However, the information is all written in Japanese.
Getting into the book proper the illustrations are exquisite. They are so beautiful it seems all I can do is drool on them.
The illustrations are printed in story book form on both sides of the paper. The paper is slightly off white and quite good quality. The line work is fine, crisp, black. The majority of the images are all very detailed and use the whole of the page. There are some areas that you may find it difficult to color in the spine of the book. The book does lay flat with minimal prodding.
The illustrations comprise scenes from Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Swan Lake, The Twelve Dancing Princesses, Cinderella, The Story of the Magic Horse, The Mermaid, The Snow Queen, The Nutcracker (the first scene for this is primarily in solid black). You will find that for each tale there is a double page scene and then pages with smaller elements to color, flowers, mandalas and the like that relate to the story.
It truly is a beautiful book, full of detailed illustrations and imagination.
