Fairies in Wonderland Coloring Book  Review

Fairies in Wonderland Coloring Book showcases fairies like you have probably never imagined before.   Their appearance and costumes differs from what I conjure up in my mind when I’m looking for fairies in my garden.  They also behave differently.  Usually you imagine a fairy basking in a pretty flower or perhaps sitting by a mushroom.      Although there are some fairies and flowers in this coloring book, these fairies have an active lifestyle and even go swimming!

Cover & Layout

The cover of Fairies in Wonderland Coloring Book has a white matte background with some lovely pre printing colors in teal, green and plum.   Some gold embellishments on flowers and wings gives the book a luxury feel.    The plum colored title  has been used for the spine of the book which nicely complements the colored imagery on the cover.

If you are keen to learn more about coloring this book, Marcos Chin has some free tutorials on his site that he is currently creating

The back cover features an amazingly detailed and intricate line art image featuring a number of fairies hiding among the flowers and leaves.   You may need to put your glasses on to find them all but the image is quite detailed.     There is a nice selection of gold foiling on this image as well.    The cover can be colored if you are keen to do so.

The fold out flap features publisher’s blurb at the front and information about the artist at the back.       The inner cover sports a day and night look with line art to color at the front set against a white background and at the back on a black background.

Fairies in Wonderland Coloring Book measures approximately 25.5 cm x 25.5cm (10.2 in x 10.2in roughly)

6 pull out postcards – 4 designs

Ancillary Pages

The front title page features a lovely fairy and butterfly on it to color.

At the rear of the book you will find a page with copyright detail and information about the artist on the reverse.    This would be the better place to test out your mediums and see  how they react with the paper and your coloring style.

Layout

Illustrations have been printed on both sides of the white, medium quality paper.   Fairies in Wonderland Coloring Book has a day and night theme with illustrations against a white background and a black background.

There are 64 double page scenes within the book where the line art does run to the center.  In addition, there are a number of single page scenes where the line art runs to the spine of the book.    At the moment, the binding on the book is quite stiff and it will be a little tricky to color in these areas.   If I am unable to push it flat and Mr Muscles fails as well,  I will carefully snip a few of the stitches in the binding, in order to loosen the book up for coloring.

There are 36 pages that have a black background.  Many of these pages are also double page scenes.

The book is interactive as well as a coloring book so there are things to engage your mind,  like riddles and mazes along the way.

Fairies in Wonderland Coloring Book Images and Illustrations

The line art in Fairies in Wonderland is a dull black but very easy to see.     It has the appearance of hand drawn about it,  although I cannot confirm that.

Inside you will find very dainty and intricately drawn illustrations of fairies and the Wonderland that they inhabit.    The fairies are decorated with different hairstyles and often elaborate costumes.     Although, often the fairies are intricate, the surrounding elements  have larger, more open spaces.

In addition to the fairies you will also find a number of other coloring pages featuring elements of  Wonderland.    There are bees, butterflies, frogs, owls and even bats.    Initially,  I was not keen on these other creatures and really wanted more pages with fairies.   However, as I have had the book for some time now,  I’ve grown used to the creatures of  Wonderland and appreciate the variety within the coloring book.

Colorists that have a minor visual impairment may need to consider using a magnifying lamp to color some of the fairies in the book.     Personally,  if I find that the fairies are too small and challenging, I would leave them as line art and just color the surrounding, generally larger elements.   This tends to create a lovely effect on the finished page as well with the line art contrasting with the colors.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
