DC Comics Wonder Woman Coloring Book Review
Seeing comic books as coloring books brings back memories of childhood for me. Whenever I was sick as a kid one of the great cures was lying in bed sipping lemonade and reading comics!
It is lovely to see that the distinctive comic book art has been repackaged as coloring books for adults and young adults to enjoy in a different way.
Cover & Layout
The glossy soft cover of this coloring book features a modern day Wonder Woman on the cover. The art work is partially colored and has background line art on it. A red spine complements the title cover.
The back cover features thumbnails of the illustrations that depicted Wonder Woman throughout different generations of comic books.
The book is A4 sized measuring approximately 21 cm x 28 cm.
The inside cover features a pattern design in crimson.
The glossy cover makes the coloring book easy to keep clean of smudges.
Ancillary Pages
A plain text title page with patter on the reverse and a short introduction opens the book.
The title page or pattern on reverse would be a great spot to test out your markers and mediums and see how they react with the paper and your coloring style.
Layout
Wonder Woman illustrations have been printed on both sides of the paper. The paper is white and an in between of thin to medium quality.
As the images are printed on both sides, the best medium to use would be colored pencils as markers would bleed through to the other side. Water based markers like Tombow dual brush pens may be an option, but you will need to test the markers discreetly on one of the ancillary pages to ensure there is no bleed through.
With markers every colorist has a different style on how much they wet and work the paper so it is impossible to judge whether markers will bleed for you or not, until you test it out.
All of the illustrations have been orientated portrait style with many having a poster effect. There are no landscape orientated drawings in the Wonder Woman Coloring Book
Illustrations
The art work has all been drawn in a crisp black which is visually very easy to see. Wonder Woman has been depicted through the generations in different styles, poses and poster formats for variety for the colorist.
The line art varies with each illustration and can range from medium to heavy with ample solid black, highlights and hatching used to depict movement, motion and action, as you expect from a comic book character.
Illustrations have been well centered and positioned on the page. However, there are a few images where the line art does abut the spine. Colorists may need to press firmly on the spine in order to access these tricky parts.
There is a massive variety of imagery in this coloring book with some drawings very detailed and filling the whole of the page with graphics. Other illustrations are simpler in design. Colorists have a great range of complexity with these drawings, and can pick and choose an image to color depending on the complexity they want to tackle.
The bulk of the illustrations of Wonder Woman also include other elements, scenes and characters.
Many of the drawings contain a lot of detail within the image and may not be suitable for colorists that find small spaced coloring challenging. Fortunately, there are several images that do have large open spaces for ease of coloring for visual and motor impaired colorists.

One of the surprises about the Wonder Woman Coloring Book is the inspirational colored images at the rear of the book. In total there are 15 colored pieces of art that have been printed on both sides of a glossy paper, that has been especially inserted in the book.
The only thing, in my opinion, that could improve the Wonder Woman coloring book would be to print on single sided paper (rather than in comic book format). The illustrations are so intricate and nostalgic that many colorists would like to frame them.
