Buffy the Vampire Slayer Coloring Book Video Review
I hope you enjoyed the video review of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Coloring Book.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Coloring Book Review
I used to adore watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer when I was younger 🙂  Angel was always a favorite and I really cannot watch the show “Bones” that has the same actor in it, without thinking of Buffy.    A fan based coloring book is always going to be a difficult thing to do.   Fans tend to focus on different aspects of the tv series like characters or different scenes.  It would be very difficult to take on a cult tv show like Buffy and produce a coloring book that will resonate with all the many fans.
Cover & Layout
The cover online looks like it has a red foiling on it, but in person this is copper laminate like stickers and not foiled.    The cover features a lovely collage of imagery from within the book, in black and white line art, with dashes of copper highlights.  The spine features the same coloring with text in white.
The back cover features three large thumbnails from within the book as line art to indicate what is inside.    They have made a good selection with the thumbnails here.  It shows the different styles of drawings in the book and that the imagery is created by multi artists.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Coloring book measures 25cm x 25 cm
Ancillary Pages
A detailed image based title page commences the book with copyright information on reverse.  This would be a great spot to test out your markers and mediums with the paper.  Over the page there is a text based title page. At the end of the book, you will find 3 pages 2 of which set out the illustrators and which pages they created.  Conveniently the facing page to each image in the book has been numbered.    The last page features advertising for other books by the same publisher.
Layout
The 45 illustrations that have been printed in Buffy are one to a page with the facing page containing a text snippet from the series.     The facing page that contains the text also is page numbered so that you can cross reference the images with the illustrators used to create the book.
The paper is white, medium weight.   Colorists using wet mediums should insert a few pages behind the project that they are working on.. Although the images are printed on one side only, the paper like all coloring books, is not designed for wet media.
All of the images have been orientated portrait style.
There are no double page scenes within the book.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Coloring Book Images & Illustrations
Buffy combines text with imagery in a coloring book that is a reflection of the tv series.    Nine illustrators created the art work for this book.     Whilst the art work all reflects the well known characters and iconic scenes from Buffy, it is rather disjointed.    The use of so many illustrators works to produce the theme of Buffy, but leaves a lack of cohesion between the images.   True Buffy fans will probably forgive this lack of uniformity and be pleased with the variety of images included.
Most of the images depict people, so if you love doing skin and hair you will enjoy this book.       As most readers will know,  I am not a huge fan of horror, scary type books (although I was when I was younger) but even I expected more gore from Buffy, and feel that the imagery is a little tame.
There are a variety of line weights used throughout this book. Overall the color is crisp and black and very easy to see irrespective of which illustrator has completed the image.       Some images have a more comic book, sketchy appearance to them with a strong use of black and cross hatching. Other images are refined with finer lines and less distractions in the background and foreground.
The bulk of the images have a lot of detail with backgrounds and foreground included.   This may be challenging for colorists with motor skill impairment. There are two handfuls of images that have more open spaces for ease of coloring.
Many of the images run to the spine of the book but the binding easily lays down and colorists should have no difficulty coloring this area.
