Benny Blue Grayscale Coloring Book Video Review
I hope you enjoyed the video review of Benny Blue Grayscale Coloring Book illustrated by Christine Karron.
Benny Blue Coloring Book Cover & Layout
When I was writing my review for the beautiful Fairies Grayscale Coloring Book by Christine Karron I stumbled upon Benny Blue. I had wandered over to Christine’s website to get an idea of her portfolio and other works. Quite frankly, once I saw Benny I had problems doing anything else that day. I remember when Mr Muscles came home from work I was still staring at the pictures of Benny. I admit that I was also petting the screen. Benny Blue is like a drug for a bunny lover like me. I just can’t get enough of that cute face!
Fortunately Benny Blue has his own Instagram account and Facebook page so I can stalk/follow him 🙂
Art Work
Christine has managed to embed the delicacy and sweetness of this bunny into each page. The longing eyes, floppy ears and delicate face are all hard to resist.
Benny is the focal point in each image but there are other elements to color as well. We can see Benny feeding the birds, feasting at the diner and even dressing up for Halloween!
The illustrations are grayscale which is very helpful if you are new to coloring fur in particular.
The artist has already added the delicate shading of the fur area to make it easy for the colorist to follow along. Usually, when coloring grayscale you color the darker areas on the picture in your darkest shade within the color family. The mid tone gray areas are colored in a shade midway. The highlight areas are coloured in the lightest color or maybe with a tint of white. Even studying grayscale is super useful if you are new to coloring as you can immediately see the areas that have light and shadows.
Benny Blue is available in a digital download and a physical book. One of the reasons that I like the digital version of any bunny book is so I can experiment with different mediums. In this book, I would love to give the watercolor wash with pencils over that Christine has done in this speed video. You can see how she builds up the texture with the watercolors and then adds the contrast and dimension with her pencils. This is a particularly useful technique if you have arthritis or a hand injury as it saves strain from layering.
