Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – A Colouring Book
I need to be honest. I am an absolute sucker for Alice in Wonderland. I LOVE the story and so naturally I am probably going to love every colouring book based on this beautiful fairy tale by Lewis Carroll. I’ll try and be objective with my reviews 🙂
There are many Alice in Wonderland colouring books on the market. Everyone that I have seen is beautiful. This one to me though, is the original. As the original it holds a special place in my heart. I’m still trying to be objective 🙂
The original Alice in Wonderland had illustrations by Sir John Tenniel and this book is a compilation of those beautiful illustrations.
First lets look at the cover. The cover is colorable and the front cover has the title in gold foil with some splashes of red. The back cover has some splashes of red but other than that does not contain any color printing. The cover folds out to a beautiful wallpaper of the characters that you can color in.
The title page is the same as the front cover (although it misses some elements). It is nice that the front cover page is included. It is often a bug bear when you fall in love with the cover and do not find that image within the book.
Throughout the book you will be greeted with extracts from Alice in Wonderland and beautiful illustrations that transport you to your childhood (that might just be me!) The illustrations generally take the full page and are full of fine line work. Some colorists may not enjoy that the line work is not outline only but others may love the shading and lines. The printing is on the whole crisp and clear black and very easy to see. You should bear in mind though that these are based off old drawings and do not have the sharpness of modern digital processing.
The illustrations go right to the spine of the book. The books lays flat quite well so it should not be an issue coloring those hard to reach spots.
The paper quality is good but test your markers on the back page to check for bleeding.
