Kerby Rosanes would have to be the most successful doodle artist in the world. At a young age, he has conquered the art world with his range of doodle based coloring books.

Sketchy Stories is a reproduction of his original moleskin sketchbook. It takes you through a visual journey of the illustrations he has created, when and if there is a special meaning for them. The pictures are in chronological order allowing the reader to see how this artist has changed and evolved during his short life so far.
The book is a lovely moleskin notebook in monochromatic cover printing.
Sketchy Stories is perfect handbag size being 5.25 in x 8.25 in. The paper is off white/cream and very good quality.

The cover image is reproduced in the book as the title page. An introduction by Chuckie Campbell is then followed by a preface by Kerby Rosanes. The book is, according to the blurb is “interspersed with Techniques and inspiration”. flipping through the 128 page book I only found two pages titled “Process” that could be considered to be Techniques. I was underwhelmed because I had expected a lot more.

The line work is black, crisp and finely detailed as you would expect from this artist.

Most of the illustrations within the book are double page spreads, with only a few single sided. However, the book lays flat quite easily with just gentle prodding due to the binding used.

The book is marketed as an art book to provide creative inspiration to others. However, as the drawings are black and white, the paper quality good, you could color the images if you wished.
The book is closed with a thick black elastic.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
