Sommarnatt illustrated by Hanna Karlzon
Sommarnatt which means Summer Nights is the follow up book from Hanna Karlzon, a talented Swedish illustrator.  Her first book Dagdrommar (Daydreams) has been an outstanding success and Sommarnatt follows the same lines.
The book is a hard cover offering with a beautiful pastel pink background and gold foil highlights.   As always, there is a black spine with foil lettering, in this case gold. Opening the book there are beautiful black matt pages, presumably to protect the illustrations at the front or back, or perhaps by design.   No matter the reason for them I find them to be absolutely beautiful and part of the elegance of the book.
Hanna Karlzon has a knack of taking you through a mystical dreaming journey through art.  In Sommarnatt it celebrates the northern summer nights. As always, the book commences with a beautiful nameplate page that is a piece of art in itself.    The illustrations that follow depict beautiful dreamy girls, animals and nature.  Some of the animals are quirky rabbits dressed up for a day out while others are ornately decorated bugs.  I swear Hanna Karlzon is one of the few artists that can make a bug look so appealing. Just like in Dagdrommar, you will find delightful, dangling gems and intricate buildings.
Sommarnatt Coloring Book Review
The line work is beautiful. The lines are black and clear with a medium weight that sets off the illustration.     Hanna Karlzon seems to have a style of including small dots as shading within her images and this is evident in Sommarnatt as well.  Like Dagdrommar, this is a keepsake book.   I initially ordered it for review purposes but couldn’t bear to part with it 🙂 One day, I hope that my coloring will be worthy of this beautiful book.
