Owls – Adult Coloring Book Review

Coloring owls gives you a lot of opportunity as a colorist to do fine details with feathers and facial expressions.     I am not a skilled colorist, but I love coloring.    For me I prefer books like Owls, illustrated by Marjorie Sarnat.     This allows me to do solid blocks of colour.   When I improve I can add more detail with blending and shading.     That’s the beauty of coloring, there’s a range of books to suit all skill levels and levels of complexity.   The other advantage is that you can add more or do less depending on your own creativity and priorities.

Creative Haven produce a number of coloring books for adults.    They all run with the same format.   The cover is approximately 28cm x 21 cm.   There are two colored images of the illustrations inside.    There are 30 full page illustrations of owls inside printed on white, perforated, single sided paper.    The illustrations take the whole of the page but do not abut the spine making coloring easy.

Illustrations

Marjorie Sarnat has a style of adding patterns and layers to all her illustrations.    You will see that this is evident here in this cute book on owls.   I love the work of Marjorie Sarnat but I do have one little quibble.   Just like in her book, Creative Cats, I feel that there could have been more variety in the style of owl.    A lot of the owls appear to be the same in the book, but with different patterns.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
