When Rita Berman looks at the world in this coloring book a single flower transforms into a marvel of perfectly arranged cells, a wooden hut becomes a labyrinth of hypnotic grains and an oak tree the skyscraper housing woodpeckers. The closer you look, the more the view of things changes. We discover under the magnifying glass a whole new world.

Die Welt unter der Lupe zu Lande  Coloring Book  Review

German illustrator,  Rita Berman entered the coloring book world last year with the start of her series of coloring books based on the changing seasons.     The 4 books in the set are all equally adorable but of course my favorite is the Spring one with the bunny pictures!   Next year she will be releasing a compilation of those four books with her favorite pictures in it in Mein Spaziergang durch die Jahreszeiten.

This year Rita has taken to the world again exploring the water through a close up magnifying view with her book Die Welt unter der Lupe – zu Wasser  and now the companion book which looks at the world on land.

Cover & Layout

Following the winning formula that she has used with her previous coloring books, this coloring book is a compact size (perfect for traveling).    The front cover denotes the “magnifying” theme of the book with a cut out for the magnifying glass to have a close up of the bee on the cover.    The cover is partially colored with line art from the book on both front and back.     As usual, there is a little colored image depicting pencils to be used when coloring the book.   This book has a dark green spine so you can distinguish it from others by her on your shelf.

The fold out flaps are full sized and feature beautifully partially colored art from the book.  At the back the same line art is available for you to color.  As the inside card has a slight gloss to it, you would need gel pens or similar to penetrate the layer.

This coloring book measures approximately 20cm x 20cm (the same as the other in the series)

Ancillary Pages

Our lovely bee that we can see through the magnifying glass starts the book with information on other titles on the reverse.   An extended title page follows with copyright information on reverse.  Any of the preceding pages would be best to test out your mediums.   This is followed b y a page featuring all types of magnifying equipment and a page of text in German from the artist.

At the back of the book there are 3 pages with the promotions for other books by the artist.  You could also test your pencils here as well.

Layout

Illustrations have been printed on both sides of the white, medium quality paper.  The paper has a faint texture to it making it suitable for pencils.    There are some double page scenes in the book for when you want a coloring project, but the bulk of the images are single page scenes.

The book lays down very well for ease of coloring even with my limited handling of it.

Coloring Book Images and Illustrations

All of the illustrations in this coloring book have a things found on land theme.   You will find cute animals in varying formats – close ups, distant, backgrounds, side profiles, front on and partial.    You will also find animals that have been incorporated in a more whimsical fashion with cute little houses to live in.  Of course land has more than animals so you will also find beautiful flowers in varying sizes and varieties, fruits, nuts and berries.   Rita has not confined herself to the animals or nature that is popular in Germany as you will also find things like pineapples, elephants and zebras in the book.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
