A Day at the Beach Coloring Book Review

A Day at the beach conjures up images of a fun summer time.   Feet in the sand, building sandcastles and enjoying all that nature has to offer.   All the things that you would expect from a day  out at the beach have been included for you to color in.   There are beach chairs, beach huts, combi van and even a mermaid in this book.

Cover & Layout

A day at the beach has a soft glossy cover with a vibrant colored image on it.      The book measures approximately 29cm x 21.5 cm (11 in x 8.5in approximately).    A combined title, copyright and nameplate page is at the commencement of the book.   There are elements to color on this page and it would be a great spot to test out your markers and other mediums.

The illustrations have been printed one per page and there are 30 standard size.   These images have also been reproduced as postcard size at the end of the book.

There is a variety of images that are both portrait orientated and landscape orientated.

The paper is white and trade stock quality.    You will need to put a piece of paper between if you are using wet mediums.

Illustrations

The illustrations have been hand drawn and offer the colorist a lot of variety.     There are poster style images, images with larger spaces and images with patterns in them.     There is a nice mix of various degrees of complexity amongst the designs.

Although there is a lot of detail in the designs, most of the images have larger spaces that are easy to color for those new to coloring, have arthritis or are visually impaired.

The line work is dull black.  I do think a brighter black line outline would look better, but that is just my opinion.    In addition, to the black outline, shading and texture have been added to various images in a lighter shade.    This helps the colorist provide dimension to the work.   Some of the illustrations have some solid black pre-printed on the design.

The illustrations are drawn primarily in a fine to medium line weight.

The illustrations, on the whole,  have been centered well on the page making it easy to color in all directions.   There are a couple of images that are landscape orientated where part of the image abuts the spine, making it slightly more difficult to color.    The book lays flat with some gentle prodding which will make it easier to color the areas near the spine.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
