I hope you enjoyed the video review above of  Color Super Cute Animals Coloring Book by Jane Maday.

Color Super Cute Animals Coloring Book Review

Color Super Cute Animals is the type of coloring book that makes me smile when I look at the cover. Look at all that cute whimsy rolled into one fat coloring book!  The title and cover all  promise super cute animals and the content certainly delivers on cuteness appeal.      As most people know, I go weak at the knees for whimsy.  Toss in a bunny and a kitty and I’m one happy camper!

Cover & Layout

Color Super Cute Animals features a glossy white cover with a colored image on front and back. The cover accurately depicts the contents of the book. You immediately know that you are going to find pages of animals that have been decorated inside the book.    The back cover also features colored art from within the book.

The book measures approximately A4 sized (8.2 in x 10.8in).    This is a great size for a coloring book as the images easily fit on a standard clipboard, if you like coloring that way.

The inner cover has been printed with line art depicting butterflies and flowers that you can color in.

A large nameplate page follows using the same butterflies and florals to decorate the page.

When I first turned the page in this book I fell in love. A beautiful colored bunny rabbit adorns the page and serves as an inspirational image for colorists. I <3 bunnies! The bunny is so pretty you could remove him from the book and frame him.

Of course, it is easy to remove the bunny image, or any other for that matter, because the pages are perforated! White medium weight paper has been used throughout the book which is all perforated for easy removal.

A plain title page, contents and introduction follows. It is unusual to have a contents page in a coloring book for adults, but the reason for it is simple in this case. Jane Maday has included, in color, complete lessons on color palettes, shading and blending tips. These tips are extremely easy to follow as there are colored images for each step.

I was sold on the book at the bunny, but then I found a beautifully colored image of the cutest bee in a heart. It was like all my whimsy dreams had come true! Opposite the inspirational bee image is the line art for you to color. The bee is given as an example of how you can use your completed coloring as papercraft projects. I am unsure of whether it is part of the project instructions, or a printing error, but my little bee has a faint double blue line running down the right side of the image. This does not detract from the image for me, because I am going to color my own little bee.

All of the illustrations in Color Super Cute Animals have been orientated portrait style.

Illustrations

This style of coloring book art is all about simple, cute designs and to be honest I can’t get enough of this type of art work. It’s sweet and charming, and very relaxing to color in for colorists of all skill levels and ages.

The animals are drawn in an outline style with varying levels of different elements added to them. We often see artists that create adorable patterns within animal outlines.   Sometimes the work is so highly patterned that it can become confusing when you are coloring. The artist has shown restraint by not overloading the images with too many details, that tends to detract from whimsical art.

The bulk of the animals are shown in full body and are generally adorned with simple shapes like flowers, tear drops, scallops, circles and the like. Most of the images contain other elements including flowers, trees, ocean plant life and butterflies.

The line art is black, crisp and is very easy to see. The line weight tends to be a medium weight throughout.

Although the bulk of most pages is filled with art work, the actual art is not complex or finely detailed. This makes it easy to color for most colorists together with the strong line weight. The large spaces that are used in each element also makes this book super easy to color in and enjoy.

Most images have a little white space to add background colors.  There are only a few images that have enough background white space to add lavish background effects.

The images have been well positioned and centered on the page whilst it is in the book. However, as the pages are perforated, and printing is never as concise as some would hope, some parts of lines may be lost when the page is removed at the perforation strip. If it was important for you to retain the centered look of the piece, and it had line art that would be removed, then you could use an exacto knife to cut the image near the spine.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
