The Day of Cat/Day of the Cat  illustrated by Kong Hye Jin

The Day of Cat is a very cute book for colouring centered on the day in the life of Bono the cat.   Bono is the illustrator’s cat 🙂

You may notice that this book has two titles.   It would appear on the second print run that they changed the name to something that flows a little easier than the previous, The Day of Cat for Colouring In.

The book measures 25 cm x 25 cm and has a card cover with some printed colors of blue and pink and dark blue foil highlights.     The inner cover has two lovely cat images for you to color in which are similar to the ones on the back cover.      The back cover of the book comprises dark blue line art and you could colour this as well.

The start of the book records the day of the illustrators as the cat’s “lowly servant”.   Bono is indeed a lucky cat!

The book is in story book form with a few words from Bono every now and again throughout.  Bono is not that chatty.   Like many coloring books, this one is interactive and you are encouraged to find the hidden objects within it.  Like always, there is a key at the end so you can check your progress.

The illustrations are printed on white paper that is very good quality.  I would test your markers though on an unadorned page to ensure that they do not bleed through.    There are some illustrations printed on both sides of the paper and many where it is just the story from Bono and the image on the facing page.

The line work is clear, crisp and black throughout the book.     There are images that have a lot of space to fill that would suit those that have visual or motor impairments.

As I progressed through the book I became quite fond of Bono (a short haired grey/Russian blue cat).   I love the way that the bio for Bono is longer than the bio for the illustrator/lowly servant – Kong Hye Jin.      Bono is indeed a special cat to have a colouring book made in her honour!

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
