Amazing Grace – Coloring Book Review

This lovely coloring book is based on the well known hymn, Amazing Grace. Throughout the book, snippets of the hymn form quotes on the page. The imagery in the book has some Christian religious symbols but the majority of images comprise nature scenes and would be appealing to a number of colorists.

Cover & Layout

The white gloss cover has some pre printing on it in green, aqua, pink, lemon, navy and purple. This is also highlighted with some gold foil for extra pizzaz. The book measures 25cm x 25cm (approximately 10 in x 10 in).

Inside the cover there is a restrained name plate page and a plain title page. Both of these pages would be a good spot to test out your mediums and see how they react with the paper. A detailed title page, with a lot of cute elements to color follows.

The images have been printed on both sides of the white paper. The paper is medium quality and perforated for easy removal.

Illustrations

On the left side of the book, a line from the hymn has been printed. The font is outlined so you can color it in and there are a few elements to color as well. The main coloring page is on the right side of the book. There are various images included in the book, birds, hearts, nature, woodland scenes. There are also some religous images included; crosses, stained glass church type window, praying hands over what appears to be a bible and a crown of thorns.

There is a handful of religious imagery in the book to color

The illustrations are on the whole whimsical and in a naive style with the exception of some of the religious imagery.

The outlines have been created in black and are very crisp and clear throughout hte book. The outlines are in a fine to medium line weight and visually are easy to see.

The pictures tend to use the whole of the page and have been well centered on the page.

The images are printed to the perforation tear out so there is no need to color near the tricky area of the spine of the book.

The bulk ofthe images contain a lot of detail, whether by patterns on the imagery, or detailed backgrounds. This may not be suitable if you have visual issues or detest coloring fiddly bits.
